I did not realize Honda still manufactured the Transalp. Only brought it to the US for about 4 years. I rode one then opted for the KLR 650.

There is an all new Transalp with 680 ccm engine and ABS. Honda launched it about 1.5 years ago. May be you did not come across it, because it's one of those bikes not available in the US.

Top 50 Motorcycle Sales Germany 2009

With sales of 4339 units for the year of 2009 the R 1200 GS / ADV is the undisputed leader in Germany. No surprise, as the GS occupied the no. 1 sales position for eight months over the year. But: BMW sold already 7000 units in one year. And: The industry shrank at about 15 % "only". So the GS did lose quite some more than the industry average. With virtually no serious competitor except the KTM 990 Adv around, and under hindsight that the touring segment is the only area which enjoyed a slight plus in 2009, this trend must be something to worry for BMW, I do believe.

In total there were 134,566 motorcycles with more than 80 cc newly registered. Germany lost the position as no. motorcycle country in Europe in 2008 already to Italy. With most German riders being 50 + y.o., the industry ought to do something before it gets extinct. Or do they wait for tax-payers money as well?
